Pussy riot

I also decided to look at the pussy riot debacle. they are a lesbian band from russia who have been persecuted and not released. I decided to do a print about them taking the piss out of lesbianism and the protesters who are trying to free them. I did this in protest to Russias anti gay laws.

Silkscreen

Here are some of my research drawings for silk. Im making a print about brendan smyth the paedophile priest. I find the sex abuse scandals horrifying and here are some drawings i did for it.

Protest and Humour

We got a new brief for silkscreen. Protest and humour. I think I will keep doing what im doing and Im happy with that. My work is protesting agaisnt attrocities by sattirising them and making fun of them. I think personally my crassness and black humour in the prints makes the topic they are about more memorable.

I like the style of drawing in my lithograph and I found it quite similar to Goyas Disasters of war. The loose contorted drawings were brilliant I found. He was also sattirising the attrocities of a civil war as was I.

Lithography was brilliant I loved it. I loved the way I could work easily with the stone and the materials for the effect I wanted.

I finished my edition of etching but I didnt have time to do my aquatint. Im very disappointed about this but hopefully i can come back to it.

So Im starting with etching and aquatint. Ive decided to make fun of topical news stories( the bad ones) like syria , north Kore etc so that people will remember them. My whole thing is that if people remember my print because it was mean or funny or horrible it means they will remember the topic it was about more than if they saw it on television.

Ive done some printing and experimented a bit and i think Im ready to do my final edition of my etchings.

We have gotten our new brief. News and headlines....Im not sure what im going to do with it yet but im doing sketches and drawings of topical news stories now.

I am excited to be back to college. In second year now ! well see what the year brings! :)
